3 Weeks Post-Op

November 13, 2019

Today was a very good day for my Angel Girl!

Just shy of 3 weeks after her surgery, she had a follow up appointment to see Dr. Marsh today.

He is really pleased with how her incisions and scope sites are healing. In fact, he removed all the staples and stitches. This weekend, she can start getting it wet which means a normal shower – she’s quite ecstatic over that prospect! That also means she can get in the pool for a little water therapy, and he said she can get back on her yoga mat and in the weight room as long as she doesn’t put any weight on her foot for another week and a half.

That’ll be her next step: at four weeks post-op, she can begin putting about 25% body weight on her foot. From there, as long as she is still pain free, she will gradually work into more weight.

At 6 weeks out, we will see Dr. Marsh again, and if she has worked her way to full weight bearing, she will begin physical therapy.

He’s got her hopes up that she can begin working towards tumbling and stunting between 3 and 4 months after surgery. That will give her about 5-6 weeks to prepare for cheer tryouts. We have our fingers crossed that his aggressive and optimistic timeline pans out!

For the time being, she’s still in a boot and on a knee scooter, but it’s great to have such a fabulous report!

Before the doctor’s visit, I enjoyed lunch with a dear friend. We ate at a great little Thai restaurant in Midtown, and I brought home a couple of fortune cookies. The one M snagged in my car on our way to Dr. Marsh’s office predicted her future just right…today has been both lucky and memorable for her.

As always, thank you for checking on M, and especially for your thoughts and prayers for healing. They are working!

With love and hugs,
Ashli
