Going into 2021, I was really determined to find ways to share Quilt 2 End ALZ with the world. Specifically, I researched magazines and podcasts, which led me to A Quilter’s Life with Paula Chamberlain.
Paula’s podcast features quilters from all around the country (and even internationally), with diverse backgrounds, and all different levels of experience. Whereas many quilt show hosts home in on the story behind patterns and projects, Paula loves learning the stories behind the quilters.
Before I requested to be a guest on A Quilter’s Life, I began listening to learn more.
Connecting with Quilters
What I quickly found out is that we are all connected by common threads.
Every single guest on each and every episode shares an experience or a struggle, a favorite pattern or a sewing technique, a hope or a happiness that I totally and completely relate to in my own life!
And Paula’s the kindest, most patient listener I’ve ever witnessed.
Instead of “listening to respond” she takes time, truly hears the words and emotions and stories being told, and as I listen to her episodes, I find myself settling in and getting to know both Paula and her guests.
It probably sounds silly, but I seem to slow down, I take a deep breath, and I feel a sense of joy and peace as I work on my own quilt projects while listening to her show.
My Story
I definitely wanted to share Quilt 2 End ALZ with Paula!
The funny this is, when I reached out and asked Paula if I could go on her show to share Q2EA, she said, “Sure…but, I want to hear your personal story first.”
I was all about the nonprofit, sharing Alzheimer’s information, and building community.
Paula was all about me.
Which was very humbling. And very touching!
A Quilter’s Life: Ashli Montgomery
This week was my episode of A Quilter’s Life went live, and I have to admit, I was nervous to listen.
Did I sound okay?
Was I engaging?
Was I helpful to others as all Paula’s guests have been to me?
Did I talk too much??
I’m very good at overthinking, but there was no need…
Paula is a great editor, and I think the interview turned out really well!
Being on the show was very fun, and I now consider Paula a dear friend and kindred spirit.
Click here to visit the landing page for my interview on her website; it introduces me and shows photos of several of the quilt projects we discussed.
And here is the Spotify link if you’d like to listen to my episode:
Be sure to subscribe to Paula’s email list so you’ll receive information about her new episode each Monday morning.
Thanks for sharing in my journey!
With love and hugs,
Ashli
PS: Quilting friends, please jump over to Paula’s website to schedule a time to visit with her – I’d love to hear your story, too!!
