In introducing myself I always begin with, “I’m an Algebra teacher, I’m an obsessive reader, and I’m enamored by anything historical or vintage.” While that explains my hobbies, in reality, I am the wearer of many hats. I am a football coach’s wife which makes me proud, I am Mom to two really amazing kids which makes me useful, I am as much a student as I am a teacher which makes me balanced, and I am an advocate and volunteer which makes me blessed. I tease that I live a simple, charming life, yet it is absolutely true. In fact, I think that I have a perfect life surrounded by magnificent people and events…no wonder I have so many stories that I am bursting to tell!
I wrote this paragraph for a graduate assignment many years ago; it is ALMOST perfectly true today. The only difference is that I am no longer an employed teacher…my day job is that of homemaker now – as well as yoga instructor, quilter, Alzheimer’s advocate, and community volunteer – and that makes me blissfully happy! I am definitely still a teacher, though, finding ways to reinforce lifelong learning by grasping hold of teachable moments in every day.
Thinking back to how much I absolutely loved my storytelling courses in my Master’s program, it is no wonder that I am here writing my blog and telling my story bit by bit. I dream of having the courage to try writing a real book someday, a romance, of course…but that’s another page entirely! Thinking back even further, I remember MawMaw, my precious mom, showing me old report cards one time. We couldn’t help but laugh at how each and every one said something along the lines of “wonderful student, just talks a bit too much” or “so bright, but a little too social and talkative” in the teacher comments section. I guess I was just meant to share.
I tried a blog some time ago, but as they say, my “why” wasn’t big enough, and I fizzled out after just a few entries. This time my “why” is as big as it gets: me and Coach. Our life together, our journey, our sweet kiddos, and this crazy, thrilling world we’ve created.
Thanks for stopping by – I hope you find a connection or a giggle or a little moment of peace while you’re here,
Ashli
My 1st blog entry about me and Coach:
Call me Inspired
The irony there is that I have never actually attempted even one recipe from the book. It doesn’t matter. It’s still my very favorite because I love the idea of it, the story woven within it, and I feel a bit of myself in the stories and people found within it. Ree says that she began with a little blog, so I find myself sitting at the computer, designing a blog, just to give it a try.
Pray as well as cross your fingers for me, please.
