What an outpouring of love and prayers and thoughts and encouragement we have received from our family and from so many wonderful friends upon hearing about Maci’s surgery!
We have felt your support and can’t say enough how much we appreciate you all.
We are now on day 4 post-op, and I feel like she’s turned a corner and is on the mend – HOORAY!
We saw Dr. Marsh again today, and he is very pleased with how the surgery went and with how she’s healing. He had the bandages changed so that she has a little more movement in her foot. That gave us the opportunity to see the incisions, clean her up a bit, and fit her into a protective boot.
I’ve posted a few pics at the bottom of this post, but beware…seeing them in person made this Momma have to step out of the room.
My Angel Girl did great, but observing 6 stitches and 19 staples in my baby made me see stars, feel light-headed and dizzy, and get that sensation that I was listening to the world through a buzzing tunnel.
*** In other words, only scroll past With love and hugs, Ashli if you really enjoy that gross, icky, medical kind of stuff.
We will go back for her 14 day post-op check up on November 12th.
At that time, she should be able to lift her toes towards her shin to get her foot in a 90º angle from her leg. If her heel has progressed as he hopes, Dr. Marsh will allow her to start bearing some weight on the foot. He will also take out her staples and possibly let her start “tank therapy” in water.
In the meantime, she’s determined to go back to classes on Monday – she keeps telling me that she’s worked too hard this freshman fall semester to lose her grades to foot surgery! That means she will be the cute girl zipping (that may be overstating her speed just a tad) around TU’s campus on a knee scooter throughout the day.
Her dorm room is adorable, but her bed is on ultra high risers:
Since she can’t climb up there right now, she’s stuck coming home to Mom and Dad at night.
At least she will be with her friends, spirit squad, and sorority sisters during the day!
Here’s to youth, quick healing, and a determined mindset!
Again, thank you all so very much for your thoughts, wishes, prayers, and cheers for M – we love you more than you can imagine!
With love and hugs,
Ashli

Those are both the inside of her right ankle and one of the scope sites.
Top of her foot with the 2nd scope location.
Outside of right ankle and heel incision.
Back of lower right leg where her calf was lengthened.
OUCH 🙁
