Being a football family is quite an adventure.
It’s glamorous (when we are winning), it’s exciting (sometimes too exciting), and it introduces us to incredible, amazing people.
It can also be challenging, heartbreaking, and really, really tough.
Like many careers and callings, coaches’ wives and their families have a unique lifestyle, unique obstacles, and unique struggles.
Just Ask: Devotions for the Coach’s Wife by Sarah Roberts is a collection of Biblical stories and coaches’ wives testimonials that encourages us all – especially those married to a coach – that we are not alone.
In our highs and our lows, our victories and our defeats, and my never-ending desires to be the woman that God identified me to be, I am not alone.
You are not alone.
I just completed this book as a Bible study with a special group of ladies whom I love and admire very much.
Each week throughout our study, the selected scripture, Sarah Roberts’ introduction to the devotional, and each guest wife’s testimonial hit home for me. They were an immediate connection with a time or a place or an uphill battle that I have faced as a coach’s wife.
The three “Just Ask” questions at the end of each devotional forced me to confront what was at the root of many of my hardest days.
The book guided me into Bible stories that I did not know very well and illustrated how today’s world is still a reflection of those times.
Our daughter, my Angel Girl, also participated in the study, and I love that every single devotional spoke to her, too, as a coach’s kid, but also as a young woman.
I feel like this book is extremely applicable for all!
This past week, our group was honored to invite Sarah Roberts onto our Zoom gathering for a wrap party celebrating the book.
She is so filled with His word and so passionate about building up women and families that it is no wonder her books are such powerful resources!
More than anything, she was kind, encouraging, supporting, inclusive, informative, determined, and filled with the Spirit.
It was a wonderful hour, and I can not wait to read her upcoming books and Bible studies as well as check out the Huddle Up Podcast with Sarah and her husband, Chris.
Coaches’ wives, you must read this book, process all that Sarah points out to us, and embrace the self-reflection it guides you through.
And non-coaching wives, I know you will love it, too.
