“Every moment is a fresh beginning.” —T.S. Eliot
I really like that thought!
It goes hand-in-hand with my “intention for the year” (which is just like a new word for the new year, but bigger)…
BE PRESENT
Merriam-Webster gives four definitions for the word “present” and all four are applicable to my purpose, to my intention for 2020:
- A gift
- To give
- Now existing and in progress
- Now
In a society that I find to be too divided, too distracted, too loud, too fast, too superficial, too cruel, too impersonal, too digital, and too much, I want to be present.
I want to be a gift to others, a servant, and friend, an encouragement, and a light to those in my world.
I want to give of myself unselfishly, giving my love to those in my world.
I want to be fully engaged in what is happening in this moment, what is now existing; I want to bestow – upon myself and unto others – the grace that comes with being happy to be in progress.
I want to give my all, my 100%, my undivided attention, my full focus, my thoughts, and my time to now.
This moment is all we have; the past is already gone, unchangeable, and the future isn’t yet here, out of my control. My power is totally and completely in this moment.
How I choose to react and respond in this moment determines my outlook, my impact, and my influence.
It’s what I have to give. And I truly desire to be a giver.
So, that’s my intention for the new year, and while I know I will slip and fall, limping through the low points that inevitably occur throughout a year, I also know I will rebalance, get back up, and skip with joy even more.
Here’s to a new year…
All my love and hugs for a fun a fabulous year to you and your loved ones,
Ashli
