With the perfect amount of sweetness and a hint of tanginess from the sour cream (which no one ever believes is in there), this is my absolute favorite fruit salad, and it is the easiest recipe to throw together.
It is one my mom made throughout my childhood, so I don’t remember a holiday feast or family get-together without it.
One of the things I love best about this fruit salad is the beautiful bowl my mom – better known as MawMaw – often uses to serve it.
By definition, I believe that “vintage” applies to anything over 50 years old. Well, this incredible piece in creamy, off-white ceramic with large, metallic gold polka dots fits the bill.
Look closely at the photo of my mom’s 7th birthday…see the bowl?
The photo is of my mom (second from the left) with her cousin, her younger brother (my Uncle Gary), and her best friend who just happened to be her step-aunt (my great-grandmother’s step-daughter). The names and date are written in my Grandma Syble’s handwriting, making it priceless.
That bowl has been passed down in our family for at least 62 years.
And here is my stunning momma today:
I would love to hear about your family heirlooms and traditions as you enjoy this fabulous fruit salad!
Ingredients:
- Large can Fruit Cocktail
- Small can Mandarin Oranges
- 2 medium Bananas, sliced
- 1/2 bag of Mini Marshmallows
- 8 oz Sour Cream
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in a big bowl; mix until sour cream coats the fruit and marshmallows. Chill until ready to serve.
With love and hugs,
Ashli
PS: You’ll notice that my ingredients pictured above are to double the recipe…I almost always double the recipe! Also, if you sprinkle a little Fruit Fresh on the bananas, it will keep in the fridge for several days.
